Pre-Mason Madness Brings Together Alumni and Friends

On Friday, October 17 from 7:30-9:30 p.m., Mason alumni are invited to gather at Brion’s Grille to celebrate the kick-off of basketball season. Mason Madness begins at 9:30 p.m. at the Patriot Center; more details will be posted on gomason.com. School of Public Policy Alumni Chapter Book Sale

Alumni, students, and friends of SPP are invited to the chapter's book sale, held on election night (November 4). The price for paperback books is $1.50, and hardcover books are $3. Books are donated by faculty, alumni and students. MORE>

Alumni Gathering in Loudoun County

On November 6, Mason alumni in Loudoun County are invited to gather at South Riding Inn from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Chris Preston, BS '96, Alumni Association Board member, and Brian Triplett, BS '99, will host this as the first of many gatherings around the D.C. metro area. The South Riding Inn will extend happy hour specials to Mason alumni for the evening. RSVP>

 


Tour Fairfax Campus with Other Alumni

Join Mason alumni and friends for the fifth annual Fairfax campus tour on November 8 from 10:30-12:00 p.m., followed by lunch. The tour will highlight the more than $500 million in expansion projects that are currently underway. MORE> 


George Mason's Birthday Event

On November 22, the Mason Alumni Association will host its annual birthday celebration for the man who gave our university its name. This year’s event marks Mr. Mason’s 283rd birthday. Please join us for a fun and informative celebration at his home, Gunston Hall Plantation.

Alumni Trip to Tuscany

In response to alumni requests for international travel, the Alumni Association is offering a tour of Tuscany May 21-30, 2009. The trip includes two nights in Rome and six nights in Florence. Travelers will enjoy guided tours of those cities and other breathtaking sights in Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, and the Tuscan wine country. This small tour group will be composed of Mason alumni and friends; a $250 deposit by December 1 saves your place. MORE INFORMATION>

Coming Soon — The New Mason Spirit

The fall 2008 edition of the Mason Spirit magazine will feature expanded content, a new look, and a larger circulation. This issue includes features on Mason's evolving campuses, a "then and now" comparison of residence life, and a retrospective on the Robinson professors, as well as university news, research updates, profiles, class notes, and more. $9.8 Million Cut from Current Budget

Mason and other state agencies throughout Virginia received the anticipated word on how much revenue will be cut from their budgets for the current fiscal year. The budget reduction being imposed upon Mason and other state agencies is the result of a $2.5 billion revenue shortfall experienced by the state. MORE>



AARP Names Mason One of the Best Places to Work

For the second year in a row, Mason has been named one of the 50 best places to work for persons 50 years of age and older by the AARP. MORE>

 



Mason Environmentalist Explores Nature and Changes Policy

Mason professor Lee Talbot is an explorer, an adventurer, and a discoverer. When he’s not racing cars professionally or hiking in the Sierras, he’s backpacking through undiscovered country in the jungles of Laos, finding previously unknown ethnic groups and animal and plant species. In addition, Talbot has been instrumental in changing environmental policy worldwide during the last several decades. MORE>


Arlington Campus Building Construction Making Progress

Located in a highly visible, densely populated region of Northern Virginia, Mason’s Arlington Campus has been closely watched by the public ever since it was created in 1979. And having an enormous construction crater dominating the campus landscape during the last year has only raised public curiosity. MORE>



Forensics Team Starts Season in Style

The Mason Forensics Team had great success in a two-day tournament recently held at Towson University, finishing as champions in the “Team Sweeps” category both days. MORE>

 

 


Volgenau School Partners with Volkswagen Group of America

As part of a comprehensive education initiative designed to support students and teachers interested in advanced automotive technology and next-generation automotive engineering, Volkswagen Group of America is investing $225,000 in Mason’s Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering. Basketball Schedules Released; Times Set for Homecoming, Senior Night

The Athletic Department has released the 2008-09 schedules for men’s and women’s basketball. SCHEDULES>

 

Mason Alumni are invited to cheer on the men's basketball team in their home opener against Brown University on Monday, November 17. Discounted tickets are available at $7 per person to those who complete a short online form. NOVEMBER 17 TICKETS FORM>

 

Other highlights of the year include Homecoming Weekend, which will pit the Patriots against Northeastern. The contest is scheduled to begin at noon on February 14. The final home game of the year will be Senior Night, which has Mason hosting Towson on Saturday, February 28 at 7 p.m. MORE>
