Celebrate Mason Madness 2008

This year's Mason Madness—the basketball season kick-off—takes place on Friday, October 17 at 9:30 p.m. at the Patriot Center. Watch for more details on Mason Madness on gomason.com.

Alumni Trip to Tuscany

In response to alumni requests for international travel, the Alumni Association is offering a special tour of Tuscany May 21-30, 2009. The trip includes two nights in Rome and six nights in Florence. Travelers will enjoy guided tours of those cities and other breathtaking sights in Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, and the Tuscan wine country. This fabulous small tour group will be composed of Mason alumni and friends; a $250 deposit by December 1 saves your place. MORE INFORMATION>

Mason Receives Accolades in National and International Rankings

Mason was named the nation’s number one university to watch on U.S. News and World Report's new list of “Up-and-Coming Schools.” MORE>

 

In addition, Mason was ranked as one of the top 100 North and Latin American universities by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Academic Ranking of World Universities. MORE>


Vision Series Lectures

Alumni are invited to enjoy the 2008-09 Vision Series Lectures, which highlight Mason faculty speaking on timely topics. The series is free to the Mason community, but tickets are required. The next lecture is October 6 with Jeremy D. Mayer, associate professor in the School of Public Policy, and his topic is "Endgame: The Last Month in Presidential Elections, This Year and Every Time." Alumnus Heads Pentagon Memorial Fund

The recent dedication of the first national monument to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks represented nearly four years of full-time volunteer work for Mason alumnus Jim Laychak, BS Accounting '83 and BS Decision Sciences '83. He is president and chairman of the Pentagon Memorial Fund, the fundraising arm for the Pentagon Memorial. Laychak's brother, David, died when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. Mason Leads! Events to Celebrate Leadership

A new initiative called Mason Leads! is the umbrella for a series of events from September 22–October 1 that are designed to celebrate leadership. A talk by author and ethics scholar Rushworth M. Kidder and a panel discussion featuring veteran observers of the Washington political scene will highlight the program. All events are free and will be held on the Fairfax Campus. MORE>


Record Number of Students and Alumni Win Fulbrights

This year, 1,450 Americans—six of whom are Mason students or alumni—will travel abroad through the U.S. Fulbright Student Award. The number of Mason scholars winning the Fulbright award continues to increase, with one Mason scholar selected in 2006 and three in 2007. MORE>

Former Georgetown Coach Joins Mason Faculty

Craig Esherick, former head basketball coach for Georgetown University, has joined Mason as a full-time instructor of sport management. In addition to teaching courses, he will assist with Mason’s new Center for Sport Management. MORE>



Basketball Season Tickets Now On Sale

Season tickets for the 2008-09 Mason men's and women's basketball seasons are now on sale. Full season plans include all 14 regular-season home games in the Patriot Center; mini-season packages are also available. For a complete list of packages and prices, see the GoMason website.
