Alumni Travel Program
The Alumni Association partners with Mason's Center for Global Education to provide alumni with an official travel program. All of the Center for Global Education's Winter Break Study Abroad programs are open to alumni. For example, the "London Theatre" and "Great Cities" programs in particular have been popular choices in years past.
The full list of countries and programs can be found on the Center for Global Education's website with journeys planned for Cuba, Greece & Turkey, Ireland, Peru, and Vietnam just to name a few. Bon voyage!
Next year, the Center is offering two new Spring Break programs led by Mason faculty. Both program fees are unbeatable and include international roundtrip airfare, so make the $500 deposit asap to secure a spot!
The South Africa program will be led by popular faculty member Dr. Benedict Carton, from Mason's department of History and Art History, who earned his PhD from Yale University and is a two-time Fulbright scholar in South Africa. Program stops include Cape Town, Table Mountain, Robben Island, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, and a safari in Pilanesberg National Park! Professor Carton has participated in human rights projects in Namibia, South Africa and Haiti and his ongoing project in KwaZulu-Natal (rooted in “memory box” techniques of Sinomlando) promotes the use of oral history to record life stories of people affected by AIDS.
The Sicily program will be led by popular faculty member Dr. Larry Butler from Mason's department of History and Art History, who is not only an expert on Mediterranean Art but also has extensive experience leading these kinds of programs. Program stops include Palermo, Siracusa, Catania, Noto and Taormina! The hotels for the program are top-notch, so we've linked to them at the bottom of the web page. As you can see on the web page, the authentic Sicilian cuisine and beautiful scenery should make for quite a wonderful spring break abroad!
