Three Alumnae Honored by SmartCEO Magazine

By Corey Jenkins Schaut, MPA '07

Three Mason alumnae are among the 25 women being honored at the 2012 Brava! Awards from SmartCEO magazine. The annual award and its July 24 gala event recognize female business leaders in the Greater Washington region who are exemplary leaders in their respective companies and in the community at large.

This year’s honorees include Nicole Geller, BS Economics ’86; Jolanda N. Janczewski, PhD Environmental Biology/Public Policy ’91; and Ola Sage, MS Technology Management ’99.

Geller is founder and CEO of Government Contract Solutions, which provides acquisition, program management, and contract management services to the federal government. Her company was recently recognized among the top 50 fastest-growing women-owned/led companies by the Women Presdents Organization and American Express OPEN. Inspired by those who mentored her, she runs a mentoring program in her company and also leads an effort to match female business leaders with Iraqi women entrepreneurs. She is a member of Mason’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences advisory board.

Janczewski is chairman of the board for CSS-Dynamac, which provides environmental, safety, and health services and supports space and Earth sciences research for the federal government and private industry. The company played major roles in the aftermaths of the anthrax mail scare, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Janczewski is a board member of the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team, which takes on other sports teams nationwide to showcase how soldiers thrive despite their injuries.

Sage is president and CEO of e-Management, which plans, develops, and secures IT systems for federal programs. The company recently received Capability Maturity Model Integration Maturity Level 2 status, which puts the firm in the nation’s top tier for handling secure data. Corporate social responsibility is a hallmark for Sage’s business. The company partners with A Wider Circle in Silver Spring, Maryland, to support local families in need. She volunteers twice a month for the charity, as do many of her employees.

The three women are profiled in the July 2012 issue of the Washington edition of SmartCEO magazine.
