- THE 2005 VIRGINIA GOLD CUP RACES are quickly approaching and the Alumni Association will be offering discounted car passes for this year's event! The Alumni Association will host a hospitality tent on the south rail side of the track. Car passes are now on sale through the Alumni Association at the discounted rate of $60. Cash, check, and credit card payments are accepted. Those wishing to purchase a car pass can contact Darren Silvis in the Office of Alumni Affairs by e-mail (dsilvis@gmu.edu) or by phone (703-993-3847).

- THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ANNUALLY AWARDS various scholarships and honors to alumni, faculty, and students. These honorees are officially recognized at the association's annual Celebration of Distinction awards banquet, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, April 20. Seven members of the Mason community will be honored by the Alumni Association at this year's Celebration of Distinction event, in addition to various alumni chapters, schools, and department awards and scholarships.

- ON MARCH 28, THE STUDENT ALUMNI CHAPTER HOSTED ITS SECOND ETIQUETTE DINNER for Mason students. Mason alumna Kristie Woodside, BS Administration of Justice '98, led the presentation on the etiquette of a formal meal, ranging from topics as which silverware to use for each course to appropriate dress to how to handle small talk. Woodside is employed at GEICO, which is one of the Alumni Association's affinity partners.

- GEORGE MASON CONTINUES TO EARN PRAISE among educational rankings. The George Mason University School of Law maintained its claim among the nation's top law schools at number 41, according to the newest edition of U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings. Mason's Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology program is ranked sixth nationally, up from an eighth-place spot in 2003. Lastly, Mason's PhD in History program is ranked 51st in the country, ahead some 30 spots from its last ranking in 2002.
- STEVEN SCHIFF AND BRUCE GLUCKMAN, FACULTY MEMBERS IN THE KRASNOW INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDY, and professors of psychology and physics respectively, have been awarded an additional patent covering treatment of seizures for those who suffer from epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.

PATRIOT SPORTS
- THE MAIN OFFICE FOR THE COLONIAL ACADEMIC ALLIANCE, an academic partnership of the 12 institutions that comprise the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), is now located on George Mason's Fairfax Campus. The alliance was created by the CAA presidents in 2002 and is administered by the provosts of the member institutions.

- FRESHMAN PITCHER ARIELLE WEINKOFSKY earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week honors for her efforts at Towson University on April 9 when she lifted the Patriots to a 1-0 win over league-leading Towson as she pitched a perfect game for six innings and singled home the game-winning run in the top of the fifth inning in the second game of the double-header.

- MATT COOKSEY AND CHRIS LOOZE HAVE BEEN MAINSTAYS IN THE MASON LINEUP for years and in the April 12th, 12-6 win over Richmond, they each broke career records indicative of their production. Cooksey's first-inning steal of second base moved him into first place all-time on the Mason career stolen bases list. Looze's two-run double in the third gave him four RBI in the game, moving him past volunteer assistant coach Greg Filson into first place on the school's career RBI list with 172.

- THE COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATED HONORED JUNIOR ASHLEY ACKERLEY of the George Mason women's track and field team, on April 12 with the CAA Field Athlete of the Week award for her efforts during competition from Apr. 4 to Apr. 10. Ackerley blew away the field in the discus at the Delaware Invitational, recording a throw of 39.78 meters to win the competition by more than three meters.

- AIMEE WILLARD, A FORMER SOCCER AND LACROSSE PLAYER, lost her life to a brutal act of violence. Come run in her honor and help us keep her name alive. This year’s event will feature speaker Adam Caskey, meteorologist for WJLA/News Channel 8 and complimentary massages from the Teal Center. Race day is Sunday, April 24 and registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the start is at 10:00 a.m. at the field house on the Fairfax campus. The entry fee is $25 and includes a t-shirt, post-race lunch, raffle ticket, and a goodie bag.
