As part of International Week festivities, a statue of Confucius donated to Mason by the Confucian Academy of China was formally dedicated on Wednesday. The statue was installed permanently on the banks of Mason Pond, across the street from the Center for the Arts.

Mason Celebrates this Year's Graduating Students with Grad Week 2008

April 28-May 3 is Mason's Grad Week 2008. A full week's activities are planned for May graduates highlighted by the Alumni Association's Welcome Brunch on Wednesday, April 30.

Mason Alumni are Invited to Gather at the Virginia Gold Cup

Once again, the Alumni Association invites you to join in the fun at the Virginia Gold Cup Races on May 3. This exciting event has been a spring tradition for the Mason Alumni Association for many years. Gold Cup entertainment starts at 10:30 a.m., and the Alumni Association's hospitality tent opens at 11:00 a.m. RSVP online:

College of Health and Human Services Alumni Chapter Signature Event at CFA

All alumni are invited to attend the College of Health and Human Services Alumni Chapter's Annual Signature Event on May 3 for an evening of acrobatic artistry at the Center for the Arts performance of Diavolo and a pre-performance reception at 6:30 p.m. Special alumni discounted tickets are available from the Center for the Arts box office at 703-993-2787 or online at www.gmu.edu/cfa. Use the coupon code 'CHHS' to receive 20% off the ticket price.


Law Alumni Host 11th Annual JLR Event

The Judicial and Legislative Reception, hosted by the Law School and the Law Alumni Chapter, will be held in the Levy Atrium of the Law School on May 21. The event provides a great opportunity for alumni to meet and socialize with judges, legislators, and attorneys from Virginia and the District of Columbia, while also enjoying an evening that features food, music, and wines from several Virginia wineries.

Alumni Association Recognizes Alumni, Students, and Faculty

In 1976 the George Mason University Alumni Association began recognizing and honoring outstanding alumni, students, and faculty members for their achievements and contributions to the university. On Wednesday, April 16, 2008 the Alumni Association once again continued this tradition hosting the annual Celebration of Distinction to honor the award winners' accomplishments at Mason, in the community, and across the globe. Congratulations to this year's winners!

Research Shows "Private Speech" Beneficial to Preschoolers

Mason psychology professor, Adam Winsler, says preschool kids talking to themselves is a good thing, and his research on the way children talk to themselves - "private speech" - is trying to change the way teachers and parents approach this issue at home and in the classroom.

26th Annual International Week Celebrates Cultural Heritage

Dressing in native costumes, demonstrating ethnic dances, and carrying flags during International Week, give students an opportunity to share their cultural heritage with the rest of the student body.

EarthFest at Mason

Mason will celebrate Earth Week with several major events highlighting conservation and sustainability beginning Saturday, April 19. EarthFest, a sustainability festival, will be a daylong event featuring environmental speakers, local bands and food and educational vendors. Ralph Nader, environmental activist and current presidential candidate, is scheduled to speak.

Men's basketball head coach, Jim Larranaga, has signed a three-year contract extension to Mason that will last through the 2014-15 season. Read More >

Three Mason Wrestlers Named to CAA All-Rookie Team

The Colonial Athletic Association announced awards for the 2007-08 wrestling season, including the All-Rookie Team. George Mason's strong rookie class, which helped the team make the jump from eighth place to a fourth-place finish at the CAA Championships, was recognized with three members making the CAA All-Rookie team. The three All-Rookie selections - Brandon Bucher (149), Frankie McLaughlin IV (157) and Cayle Byers (197) - were the most of any team in the conference.

Men's Golf Earns 12th Place at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate

The Patriots cut 10 strokes off their first-round team score and moved up in the standings to finish in 12th place at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 7,102-yard Ironwood Golf & Country Club. Mason's J.J. Amoruso shot a five-under par 67 to finish tied for fourth place overall, moving up 30 spaces from 34th overall after round one.
