- A NEW STYLE FOR THE MASONWIRE has been unveiled. Look for continuing stylistic improvements in the months ahead. We hope you'll like the changes!
- GEORGE MASON AND WETA PUBLIC TELEVISION are collaborating to produce a new public affairs series beginning Tuesday, February 24, at 8 p.m. on WETA TV 26. The hour-long series is hosted by Frank Sesno, veteran journalist, former CNN Washington bureau chief, and George Mason University professor of public policy and communication.

- INSTITUTE FOR CONFLICT ANALYSIS AND RESOLUTION faculty members, along with other Mason professors, joined with some of the best research minds in the business over the weekend of February 13-15 to contemplate the direction of their peace-related research for the next few years. Approximately 30 invited participants met at George Mason University for "Research Programs In Conflict Resolution: A Conference for Faculty and Conflict Resolution Specialists."

- THE CAMPAIGN FOR GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY has moved beyond its minimum goal to raise $110 million in private support, reaching this benchmark 17 months ahead of schedule! Campaign Chair Sidney Dewberry made the announcement on February 18 at a luncheon preceding the Board of Visitors meeting.

- THREE GEORGE MASON WOMEN took time out from their very busy lives to write novels--50,000 words--in one month, while most people were planning their Thanksgiving menus. Colleen Kearney Rich, Tara Laskowski, and Beth Posniak took on the challenge issued by National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).

- A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR PROFESSOR KENNETH KOVACH to celebrate the School of Management professor's life and work will be held on Friday, February 27 at 1:00pm in the Center for the Arts, Third Tier Lobby. - A NEW LAW SCHOOL LITERARY MAGAZINE, created by George Mason's School of Law, is seeking submissions from other law school students from around the country. The Scrivener - A Creative Journal is designed to "not only promote creative writing and thought among law students, but also to provide law students with an interesting, fun, and exciting respite from the everyday required law school reading."

- HOMECOMING 2004 ended with a literal bang with fireworks after the Men's Basketball team shut down the University of Delaware Blue Hens 75-61. The highlight of Homecoming on Saturday, February 21 was the annual pre-game Block Party outside of the Patriot Center.

- THE HISTORY & ART HISTORY ALUMNI CHAPTER announced that their spring event will be held on Saturday, May 22 at Hillwood Museum and Gardens in Washington, D.C. Hillwood opened to the public in 1977 and holds Marjorie Merriweather Post's extensive collection of 18th and 19th century Russian Imperial Art, as well as her formidable collection of 18th century French decorative arts. The 25 acre gardens include vast orchid and azalea collections. The charge for this event is $15. Register now to ensure your participation. - GEORGE MASON'S DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY will attend the combined NE/SE meeting of the Geological Society of America at the Tyson's Corner Hilton, in McLean Virginia, March 24-27. - WOMEN'S SWIMMING CAPTURES THEIR THIRD CAA SWIMMING & DIVING TITLE while the Men's team takes second place! The 3-day CAA Championship was hosted at the Aquatic & Fitness Center on the Fairfax campus.

- 2004 MEN'S BASEBALL SEASON HAS BRIGHT OUTLOOK! In the fall of 1999, a group of freshmen entered the George Mason baseball program and began the process of turning things around from the up-and-down seasons the Patriots had experienced in the late 1990s. By the time they were seniors last season, that group had brought Mason to the brink of its first Colonial Athletic Association championship in a decade.

- PATRIOT CLUB ANNOUNCES BUS TRIP TO ODU on Saturday, February 28 for the GMU vs. ODU Men's Basketball game. Lunch will be served at Brion's Grille at 1pm and the bus will depart at 2:30pm. Cost is $40 per person and includes transportation, game ticket, buffet lunch at Brion's Grille and food and beverages on the bus. - 79TH RUNNING OF THE VIRGINIA GOLD CUP RACES will be on Saturday, May 1 at Great Meadow in The Plains, Virginia. The Alumni Association will sponsor a tent and all are invited to enjoy a day of food and fun in Fauquier County. Car passes can be purchased either through the Office of Alumni Affairs or the Gold Cup Association. More details will follow in March.
