School of Management and Alumni Chapter Host Two Events

Join School Of Management alumni at Sobe Bar and Bistro in Clarendon for after-work socializing and networking on March 5 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Drink specials and complimentary appetizers will be available. RSVP>

On March 31, the 4th Annual SOM Alumni Celebration, co-sponsored by the SOM Alumni Chapter and the School of Management, takes place from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Enjoy cocktails and dinner with fellow alumni, students, and faculty, and hear keynote speaker Eric D. Cevis, BS Marketing '86, vice president of Verizon Enhanced Communities at Verizon Communications. Both the Young Alumni and Emerging Business Leader award winners will be announced. SPP Alumni Chapter Hosts 2009 Signature Event

On March 27 from 6:00-8:30 p.m., former congressman Tom Davis will present A House Divided: Challenges Facing the Obama Administration at the School of Public Policy's 2009 Signature Event. The SPP Alumni Chapter will also present the 2009 Distinguished Student and Faculty awards. RSVP to join us by March 25. RSVP>



Young Alumni Professional Development Workshop

This panel discussion on March 12 will focus on maintaining your current job and increasing your ability to move ahead. The panel will consist of staff members from University Career Services, Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), and Mason alumna Janet Sullivan, BA Psychology '01, who specializes in the human resources and payroll field. Mason Alumni Celebrate Homecoming 2009

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Alumni began arriving at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 14 to celebrate Homecoming as VIPs (Very Important Patriots). Special alumni activities included a caricature artist (pictured below), an old-fashioned photo booth, and a delicious breakfast hosted by the Mason Alumni Association. Additional block party activities included competitions and a rousing pep rally that kicked off the exciting men's basketball victory.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Survey Respondents Can Win CAA Tournament Passes

To help the university evaluate the role a major fundraising campaign might play in its strategic plans, alumni will soon be asked to fill out a brief survey. Respondents will be entered in a drawing for several prizes, including two tournament passes to the CAA men's basketball tournament in Richmond, Virginia, on March 6-9.

Mason and City of Fairfax Celebrate 50 Years of Partnership

Mason and the City of Fairfax celebrated their partnership with an unveiling of a sculpture by Mark Sistek at City Hall on February 10. MORE>



College of Visual and Performing Arts Hosts 24-Hour Festival

CVPA will present the Making Connections Marathon, a 24-hour festival of theater, art, music, film, and dance activities, beginning on Friday, February 20 at 8 a.m. The event kicks off at the Fine Arts Building. MORE>



Mikhail Gorbachev to Speak at Mason

The former president of the Soviet Union and Nobel Laureate will speak at Mason as part of the "1989: Looking Back, Looking Forward" conference. Gorbachev's address will be presented at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall on Tuesday, March 24 at 8 p.m.

In addition, the conference features an ongoing film series and discussions with Mason faculty and visiting scholars. CONFERENCE INFORMATION>



Jorge Haddock Named New SOM Dean

Jorge Haddock, currently dean of the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond, has been appointed the dean of Mason's School of Management, effective July 1. Haddock will succeed Richard Klimoski. MORE>

Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine has named Mason to its national top 100 "Best Values in Public Colleges for 2008-2009" list. MORE>

 


University Libraries Exhibit 'Hidden Treasures'

The University Libraries new exhibit, "Hidden Treasures in Special Collections & Archives," features unique and unconventional archival materials. The exhibit includes Civil War-era items, rare books, theater-related archives, and other visually appealing selections. MORE>

Patriot Club Young Alumni Night

Graduates of 2006, 2007, and 2008 are invited to a special Young Alumni Night basketball game to preview the membership benefits of the Patriot Club. The game is Saturday, February 28 at the Patriot Center; tickets must be purchased by February 20. MORE>



Adjeman-Pamboe Selected in 2nd Round of MLS SuperDraft

After a spectacular senior season and a strong showing at the Major League Soccer Player Combine, Mason forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe was selected on January 15 by the Colorado Rapids in the second round (28th overall pick) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. He becomes the seventh player in Mason history to be selected in the MLS draft. MORE>
