Golden Quill Society
The Golden Quill Society is an enhanced first-year alumni leadership experience created by the George Mason University Alumni Association to recognize outstanding graduates prior to commencement and cultivate their leadership within the alumni community. In being identified as a first-year alumni leader, members of the Golden Quill Society can expect to be listed as a resource for schools, colleges, and alumni chapters seeking leadership.
Backpack to Briefcase Series
Alumni want you to be ready for graduation and prepared for everything just over the horiszon. To help, we're bringing alumni speakers to share their advice with you in our Backpack to Briefcase series. Every third Tuesday from March through July, they’ll discuss things they wish they'd known as they entered the workforce and give tips about entering "the real world." RSVPs required. First up, we'll hear from Julie Simmons '96 about Researching Potential Employers & Networking on March 20th.
Commencement Activities
The Alumni Association is present at Commencement each year to welcome the newest members to the alumni community. The Alumni Association provides a special gift to the graduates. Gifts range from books to T-shirts to a lapel pin that can be worn in the workplace to promote Mason pride. Membership into the Alumni Association is free, and alumni are encouraged to stay connected to their alma mater after graduation. Detailed information about where you need to be and when is available from the Office of Events Management.
Etiquette Dinners
While sitting at the dinner table, do you look at the place setting and wonder which water glass is yours or which fork you should use? Are you nervous about a business meeting or job interview that might be held over lunch or dinner? Etiquette Dinner teaches students the appropriate tools and techniques for professional networking. This unique event allows students to network with alumni in a relaxed environment while learning about proper dinning etiquette. We focus on undergraduate students in the fall, while the two spring Etiquette Dinners are geared towards graduate students.

Student Giving Helps Students and Mason
For some students, getting through college is a financial challenge. In the past, Mason students have raised funds for scholarships that have helped fellow students afford a Mason education. Your annual gift to Mason goes to work immediately to strengthen academic programs and attract top faculty members, and is your vote of confidence in Mason and its future. Every gift—no matter the size—adds up to make a real difference! Make it a habit. Make it for Mason.
Exam Week Care Packages
You will not want to miss this! Each semester the Alumni Association recruits alumni volunteers to help distribute free scantrons and bluebooks to students prior to exams during Destress Fest. Look for a kiosk in the Johnson Center during the final week of classes and stop by to pick up your care package.
Career Network Online
Mason alumni and friends make up this valuable network of professionals who share career and job hunting advice with students and fellow alumni. Sponsored jointly by the Office of Alumni Affairs and Career Services, this is a great tool for networking with alumni. Visit careers.gmu.edu to begin a network search.
