Learning Resources

COVID-19 and the Mason Impact — Mason is engaging with our students and community by highlighting the scholarly work of our faculty through the lens of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. UNIV 391: COVID-19 and the Mason Impact is a free one-credit course offered to Mason students this summer, and each presentation is also being shared with the public. During each session, a different Mason faculty or staff member is featured and leads conversational presentation about an aspect of COVID-19 that has intersected with their scholarly work. Presentations are posted after live session is completed.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute  The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University provides educational, cultural and social opportunities to active and intellectually curious adults 50+. All classes are currently online to help you stay safe and healthy during the pandemic. Treat yourself, a retired parent or loved one to the gift of OLLI membership. Special for Fall Term 2020: new members are eligible for a discounted fee of $300 for an annual membership (normally $450). Registration for fall term starts August 18. View our course catalog!

Teaching at OLLI Mason — Written a book? Love to teach? Want to share an expertise? The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University is looking for instructors for spring term 2021. OLLI Mason provides educational, cultural and social opportunities to active and intellectually curious adults 50+. Lectures can be one-session or up to eight-sessions, each lasting 85 minutes. Spring term runs March 29-May 21 with classes held during the daytime between 9:30-4:00 p.m. All classes/presentations spring term will be taught online via the Zoom virtual platform. Technical support will be provided. If interested, please fill out our course proposal form and we’ll be in touch with you shortly!

Executive Development Chief Data Officer Program — Participants who complete the four-month program will be prepared to effectively execute the responsibilities of the chief data officer role, advance the data management agenda, and add significant value to the organization. Network with faculty, subject matter experts, and other participants.

Executive Development Chief Learning Officer Program — Participants who complete the four-month program will be prepared for a leadership role at the executive level; possessing the knowledge and skills to align with the organization’s business leaders; design an integrated talent strategy to attract, develop, retain, and advance the talent needed to meet the business objectives; sustain a productive workforce for the organization; and add significant value to the organization. Network with faculty, subject matter experts, practitioners, and other participants.

Executive Development Chief Risk Officer Program — Participants who complete the four-month program will be prepared for a leadership role at the executive level; possessing the knowledge and skills to align with the organization’s business leaders; design an integrated risk strategy needed to meet the business objectives; and add significant value to the organization. Network with faculty, subject matter experts; and other participants.

Polarity Thinking Workshop — This dynamic program will equip you to deal successfully with polarities interdependent forces that create tension in complex situations. This certification helps you see how "both/and” Polarity Thinking helps create leverage for the complex and critical challenges that all leaders, teams, and organizational systems face. You will use Polarity Thinking™ concepts, practices and tools (including the Polarity Map® and the Polarity Assessment™) and gain experience managing polarities in a consulting/coaching client relationship.

Leadership Coaching for Organizational Well-Being: Becoming a Coach — The Professional Certificate in Leadership Coaching for Organizational Well-Being Program is designed specifically for business professionals striving for positive change in team and organizational culture. The Mason coaching focus emphasizes strengths-based approaches and methodologies as well as transformative practices that deepen self-awareness, develop coaching presence, and facilitate organizational well-being. This experiential program features a competency and research-based curriculum that aligns with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) requirements and coaching competencies.

Social Justice in America Webinar Series — More than 20 scholars, practitioners, community leaders, and former government officials, including former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D), participated in a week-long series of Schar School of Policy and Government webinars examining five different aspects of civil and human rights in the U.S.

Poetry Daily  A daily anthology of contemporary poetry edited and produced through a partnership of the George Mason University Libraries and Mason Creative Writing.

Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (RRCHNM)  Created for middle and high school students by George Mason's RRCHNM, Eagle Eye Citizen engages users in solving and creating interactive challenges about Congress, American history, civics, and government with Library of Congress primary sources. Eagle Eye Citizen is freely available to anyone who wants to play with rich and engaging historical sources while also developing their civic understanding and historical thinking skills. 

Tropy  A software application developed at RRCHNM that isn't just for researchers. It is also a great tool for scanning and organizing family photographs or family recipes: two things to whittle away the hours while at home.
