Nonfiction on the Fly | 6–7 p.m. EST | Virtual
Explore the world of creative writing! Join us for an interactive and fun session for all ages. Professors Art Taylor and Gregg Wilhelm will lead a discussion on creative nonfiction - including what that phrase means - and host a writing sprint with guest wordsmiths writing flash nonfiction on the fly based on a prompt chosen by attendees. Audience members can also try their own hand at the challenge. We’ll hear some of your storytelling attempts, then listen to what our guest authors created.

Mason alumni are invited to help “stuff a truck” by donating nonperishable food, toiletries, and supplies to support Patriot Pantry, which assists Mason students experiencing food insecurity. Details about where to drop off your donations will be included in your registration confirmation.

The Iditarod: The Last Great Race | 2:15-3:40 p.m. EST | Virtual    
An exciting time—the 51st running of the Iditarod! The instructor will discuss the running of the Iditarod, which is 1,046 miles over mountains and dangerous, hazardous terrain with the best-conditioned athletes. The class will learn about the unique participants, rules, training of the dogs, veterinary care, and the responsibilities of the musher.

Early-Bird Rate: $15 per person (available through 1/20/2023) (10 or younger is free)
Regular Rate: $20 per person (10 or younger is free)
This G.O.L.D Homecoming Happy Hour is a chance for alumni, particularly Mason graduates from the years 2012-2022 and their friends, family, or significant others, to join us at Bowlero Tysons to reunite with classmates, fellow alumni, and alumni chapter leadership. The ticket price includes two drink tickets (can be used for all beverages), food,  bowling shoes for rental, and an arcade. Walk-ins are accepted with credit card payment at the door.

Storytelling: A Passion for Storytelling in Your Profession | 12–1 p.m. EST | Virtual
Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways of conveying information and a fundamental communication skill that provides meaning and context in every industry. Stories are the way we change minds and win hearts, and telling stories with more skill and intention is the best way to make a connection or share an idea. Storytelling is not a gift reserved for the chosen few—the professional journalist, screenwriter, or novelist—it's a skill you can learn and practice. Join us to become a better storyteller! This event is sponsored by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In this moderated Q and A, Jennette McCurdy talks about her New York Times bestseller, her career, and more. Tickets are FREE for Mason students, faculty, and staff; limit 1 per ID registered. Tickets for all others are $30. This show is intended for an audience aged 18+ and may cover sensitive topics.

Attack of the Zombie Crabs | 1-2:30 p.m. EST | Virtual     
Amy Fowler, assistant professor of environmental science and policy at George Mason University, will give a presentation on the research her laboratory is currently performing, discussing the effects that a native isopod parasite and an invasive castrating barnacle parasite have on their crab host. The presentation will be followed by time for questions.

Show your Patriot pride as Mason Nation gathers for the Homecoming Tailgate! There are two options to join in the fun:

Advance Purchase: $10 per vehicle (available through Wednesday 2/15/2023):
A tailgate parking permit pass entitles you to two parking spots to accommodate one vehicle and up to eight guests. The tailgate vehicle permit includes access to the Alumni Homecoming Tent for the alumni purchaser only. Additional guests may pre-purchase tickets to the Alumni Homecoming Tent or pay on site on the date of the event.
